Drew Cornwall a multi-disciplinary artist with a primary focus on photography. With over 10 years of experience as a fine art printer almost 20 years of camera work, he continues to explore the medium while enjoying the connections made among the various people, places and things encountered. For six years at Portland’s highly regarded Pushdot Studio, he has worked as a digital technician with an emphasis on color management, artwork reproductions, film scanning, image restoration and more. Surrounded by a wealth of knowledge, artwork and innovation, Drew continues to be inspired by working with the clientele of artists which range from local artists, galleries and museums to critically acclaimed photographers, painters and image-makers alike. After a few ups and downs, since the studio has closed/moved to Astoria, he is now a free agent of sorts shifting back towards the commercial field. Most recently, after photographing for Doug Fir Lounge and Mississippi Studios, a lot of his attention has been pointed towards documenting live music performances.

After freelancing in South Florida, covering weddings, events and contributing images for various publications and independent projects, he gravitated north to earn a degree in Photography (BFA) from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Georgia. These were the formative years when his portfolio began to develop and included various genres of work containing commercial as well as fine art photography.

His personal work has the approach of documentarian and ranges from portraiture to landscapes utilizing both digital and analog formats–the distant yet intimate landscapes that yield a sense of place to a closer and more intellectual observation of the people he encounters. The details are not overlooked along the way. With a high energy to collaborate and draw connections, he continues to engage in community to better understand our lives and the world we live in.

Upon graduating, he first moved to the midcoast Maine to work for Maine Media Workshops + College, where his vision for photography grew exponentially and with passion; especially after working with professional photographers Joyce Tenneson, Cig Harvey and John Paul Caponigro for about 2 years. These particular artists helped shape his artistry and continue to influence his focus to remain on the world of fine arts. Each experience served as strong motivating factors for him to continue working and exploring within the art of printmaking.
